Built By Us is a Finalist for the Prestigious UK Social Enterprise Awards 2024
Built By Us, a social enterprise specialising in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in the built environment, is up for a national award. Their mission is to create a world built by everyone, for everyone.
Brixton-based Built By Us is a finalist in the UK Social Enterprise Awards, recognising it as one of the country’s most innovative and impactful businesses.
Social enterprises are mission-led businesses that reinvest or donate at least half their profits for a social or environmental purpose. Built By Us is dedicated to enhancing the built environment by fostering greater diversity and inclusion. In the construction sector, which has some of the lowest equity, diversity, and inclusion levels, BBU strives to break down barriers and create opportunities for underrepresented groups.
These prestigious national awards, run by Social Enterprise UK, recognise sector-leading excellence and innovation across a diverse range of criteria. Built By Us is shortlisted in the ‘Social Enterprise Building Diversity, Inclusion, Equity & Justice’ category.
Danna Walker, Built By Us Founder and CEO, said: “It’s an honour to be nominated for such a prestigious awards amongst amazing organisations. We couldn’t do what we do without tremendous volunteers and the team, so this nomination is for them!”
Built By Us will attend a VIP ceremony in London’s iconic Roundhouse on Wednesday the 4th of December to find out if they’ve won this highly sought-after award.
There are an estimated 131,000 social enterprises in the UK, employing more than two million people and contributing £60bn to the national economy each year. These enterprises also tackle some of the biggest challenges facing people and the planet.
Peter Holbrook CBE, chief executive of Social Enterprise UK, commented: “Our Awards are the ultimate showcase of social enterprise impact and excellence – so those who made the shortlist represent the future of business and a beacon of hope in turbulent times.
“Despite economic challenges, these trailblazers are making a profit and using it for the good of people and the planet. Big and small businesses have a vital role in solving the problems we face as a society, and the social enterprises celebrated at our Awards give us all inspiration and motivation to do business better.”
